Ax Slinger hat geschrieben:Yeah, I can relate to what they were saying in the extras about their rehearsal space. I have had problems like that many times. That's why I always rented a barn out in the country or something whenever I could. Plus ya don't get noise complaints either. In fact, I rented one of those picnic barns (basically a roof on stilts) in a state park once because I couldn't find anything else, and the rehearsal ended up being two days of free concerts for the people camping in the state park.

What kinda music are you making? Anywhere samples for download?

I've been retired for 8 years. Now I only play once in a great while, when the mood strikes me. (To wake up the neighbors...) But I have no recordings. I never recorded much when I was playing, and all of the recordings I did make back then are long since gone...

We used to rehearse in the basement of our house when I was about 20 or so. We were basically underground, and my neighbors never heard a sound. That is until they went to bed. As soon as their heads hit the pillow, they could hear it loud and clear. Fortunately for us though, they were old folks with hearing aids, and they just turned them off and went to sleep. And we rocked until sunrise almost every night. Bild

Those were the times, eh. I like your stories. Fortunately not all kids today consume Pepsi, MTV and crisps. There are quite a few who do similar things. I always wanted to play fly on the wall.

As teen I was used to hang out in a bands rehearsal room. They called themselves Wildschweine (wild boar), being in love with the drummer, rolling cigarettes for him while he was playing. It took me some time to realize that guys got only sex-appeal while playing an instrument but was something that didn't last
But was a good time anyways ;)

Say it isn't so! You were a "Groupie"? Bild

Ok, here's a Groupie story for ya...

Back in something like 1985 or so, my band "The Generic Band" was playing in the Cabaret at Harrah's Club in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. These casino shows were different than typical gigs where we did one three or four hour long show and that was that. Instead we did three one hour and 15 minutes shows at different times of the night. Another difference was instead of paying at the door, people who went to these shows had to buy two drinks. This meant that the people at these shows had to be over the minimum drinking age and there were no kids there like most of the shows we had been doing at state and county fairs and such. Which meant that we could be a little more "adult oriented" in the shows.

This one day there was these two ladies who had to be in their 60's or 70's that came to our first show. They sat in the front row and watched us play our show, and were very enthusiastic. They really seemed to really be enjoying themselves, even though they had probably never heard any of the material we played at all. We finished up the show and left, to return two hours later for the second show. When we came out on stage, sitting there in the front row were these same two ladies.

So as was our usual custom, we hammed it up with them. During a couple of "love songs", our singer sang directly to them. And he really got down and dirty doing it. We did that a lot, so we didn't really think that much about it. It was just part of the show. So we finished up the second show, and they cheered like mad.

Two hours later we come back to do our third show, and there they were, still sitting in the front row. Come to find out, they had been leaving after each show, and sitting at the bar right outside the Cabaret until the next show started. And by the time the third show started they had already had about 15 drinks each, and they were definately feeling no pain.

For the last show of the night, we usually did a Frank Zappa routine based on the "Live at the Fillmore East, 1971" album, where we played "Do You Like My New Car?", which is a little on the, shall we say, risque side. (Read about it if you dare...) So we start playing the song, and these women just loved it. When it got to the "monster" part, they jumped up and down screaming.

Now all night long these women had been watching our bass player very closely. And when we started the Zappa routine, he played the part of Mark Volman, and I played the part of Howard Kaylan. As we finished up the show they were giving him "the evil eye"...

Afterwards we were backstage for about an hour putting our gear away. When we finished up we walked out the front of the club to head back to our hotel. There they were, as drunk as could be. And the second our bass player walked out the door, they were all over him. "Oh, Honey, you're with the band aren't you? We just loved your show! You were fantastic!" The rest of us started laughing hysterically. It was quite funny to see these two old ladies "chasing" our bass player.

So for the next year or so, no matter where we went, every time a woman (of any age) would get anywhere near him, we would start saying (in an old lady voice) "Oh, Honey, you're with the band aren't you? We just loved your show! You were fantastic! Would you like to come to our room? We'll take out our teeth and show you a good time!" Bild

Well, ya know George Bush went to the Dan Quayle School of Public Speaking... Nobody could massacre the English language like good ol' Dan. At least until George Bush came along. :lol2:

I'd say server. The thought police are too dumb to get them all...

The Official Internet Quayle Quote List

The other day someone asked me why I said I would never be a Republican. I just laughed and said "Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Dan Quayle, George W. Bush... Need I go on?"

I think the problem is that to many people this lack of knowledge is acually appealing as this is something they can identify with, kinda 'If that guy made it into the White House I could do this too'

The page was just offline, take a look: http://www.dubyaspeak.com/audio.shtml And please, no food and drink while reading ;)
